Health and fitness for female football players

At the recent FIFA Women's World Cup in China, a new resource, specifically for female footballers, was unveiled.

'Health and fitness for the female football player' addresses the issues female players face and the differences between the men's and the women's game. It aims to answer as many questions as possible on injury prevention, nutrition, bone protection and specifically, the female gender issues that affect players and coaches.

Written in layman's terms, the booklet provides a scientific-based practical guide to help players make informed decisions, whether they play just for fun or for the national team.

'I wish there had been something like this when I was playing. I never knew about the dangers of amenorrhoea and its significant long-term effects, for example, or how certain injuries such as anterior cruciate tears could be prevented,' says former US women's national team player Mary Harvey
